A Contemporary Dance Rendition of Peaky Blinders Blew My Mind
It was a rare treat to enjoy an evening of dance at the theatre
It was all due to reading a piece by Amanda Laughtland about an evening at the ballet that I went searching for a live ballet to attend.
I had wanted to take my multi-style dancing daughter to a streamed showing of Matthew Bourne’s The Nutcracker last November, but her mega early-morning starts made her decline the offer. Instead I vowed I would find something else to take her to. And then promptly forgot.
So when I read an essay about a trip to the ballet, it jogged my memory and I ended up down a rabbit hole, looking for something worth watching.
There were a couple of mediocre-looking ballets coming to cities close enough to where I live but I wanted something really worthwhile. And then I spotted the listing for Peaky Blinders: The Redemption of Thomas Shelby, performed by Rambert Dance, one of the top London dance companies, coming to the Plymouth Theatre Royal on their tour.
I have to confess, I haven’t even watched a whole episode of Peaky Blinders before so the story isn’t what pulled me in. But I watched the trailer of the dance and I was sold.
