A Message to My Followers, Especially My Email Subscribers

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a piece expressing my belief and trust in Medium and the people working hard on the back end. I have a lot of reasons to have built that trust and belief, which I won’t go into now.

**I later removed it from circulation because I felt it was wrong to hijack traffic for a meta piece, and I’d really only written it out of a sense of frustration at all the other meta pieces I’d seen doing the rounds, most especially those dedicated to bashing Medium.

As many of you have probably noticed, earnings have tanked this month. Not just a little but a lot. In addition, boosts have been harder to get approved since last July, which has impacted everyone. Stress levels increased. Energy for, and enjoyment of, crafting work felt depleted. Many began moving over to Substack.

For me, there felt no need to move. In any case, I was already writing a niche newsletter on Substack that was entirely separate from the main work I publish on Medium, and I didn’t want to add more.

But with the tanking of earnings, I’ve had to rethink.
