American Actor, Daniel Stern, Got Spooked by the Spectres of Dartmoor

Does it have anything to do with the sinister tale of Widecombe’s St. Pancras church?

In an episode of Celebrity Ghost Stories, American actor, Daniel Stern, shared a chilling experience that he claims happened while he was on his honeymoon in Widecombe-in-the-Moor on Dartmoor.

Widecombe is the focus of several ghost stories and legends, some of which have been around for many hundreds of years. The most celebrated is the story of Tom Pearce’s grey mare, who was worked to death to take seven men to Widecombe fair in the early 1800s. It is said that her bones are heard creaking every time the north wind howls over the moor.

But a much more chilling one is associated with the large church in the centre of the village, and took place during a fierce storm on 21st October 1638. Stern claims that there is a link between this story and the experience he had while stopping briefly in the village to take a look at the impressive tower of St. Pancras Church, affectionately known as the Cathedral of the Moor.

According to Stern, he saw many people walking in the same direction through the churchyard. They were all wearing black, staring straight…
