Another beautiful, if heartbreaking, read. I was hoping that your neighbours would cut the trunks into shorter lengths and place them in piles. Dead wood piles make great habitats for wildlife of all kinds - a way for the trees to keep giving even after death.
I am glad some of the birds are still visiting and that there is a little sign of life at least.
