Dear Me…Dear, Dear Me!
What would I say to the 21-year-old me? Good question…
A letter from Sally of 19th July 2023 to Sally of 19th July 1996:
My darling,
Can I call you that? Would you find that a little weird?
Probably. But then again, what isn’t weird to you? I mean, cool and weird go together hand-in-hand as far as you’re concerned. Like the Japanese woman you met travelling in India, carrying her sourdough starter with her everywhere she went. Caring for it like it was her baby, and even sleeping with it inside her sleeping bag on those cold, cold, nights up in that village above McCleod Ganj in the Himalayas, where the Dalai Lama resides.
She was weird as anything. And yet so cool with it.
Well, let me tell you — you will never forget her. Her gift of sourdough and all that she taught you will give you all sorts of fun, adventure, and even a business in the years to come.
But you will forget her name, even if not the impression she made on you.
But anyway, my darling, I digress. For I am writing this letter to give you fair warning, though sadly I know it’s too late.
I need to warn you not to assume that life is meant to be perfect or anything close to that. Seeking perfection…
