Fabulous story. My one experience of hitchhiking in France was terrible. It took us twelve hours to get from central Brittany to Rennes (around 2.5 hours normally) in the pouring rain. Thankfully there was a TGV going from Rennes to the city we were heading for that night and we ditched the hitch.
