Great piece, Deb. My neighbour is a fairly newly-minted primary school teacher. After working with the tiniest kids, she was then moved into the next stage up and the workload increased tenfold and she was close to breakdown. When she spoke to her colleagues about her struggles with it, they told her they normally spent around nine hours marking and lesson-planning every weekend. She quit and went into supply teaching instead. Honestly, that's inhumane to have to spend that many hours every weekend when you've worked all week too!
