I agree with this. While I am in general agreement with you that it's not a racist statement since it is often the case that we tend to be attracted to certain physical looks, voicing it in that way does come across as racist. Ruling out Chinese women is basically saying that they aren't worthy of his consideration.
It may be that he doesn't ever find himself attracted to Chinese women, and that's simply his personal natural preferences kicking in. We all tend to have them, usually subconsciously. I notice myself being attracted to certain features and I have a friend who has only dated black men since her teens and she's as white and blonde as they come. I don't see these as conscious choices but the way he voiced his as a conscious choice was distasteful.
