I feel I know saudade well, but I never knew of it.

I am fascinated with saudade, a word from the Portuguese. There is no English-language equivalent. It is sorrow, nostalgia, but a pleasure in them. A missing, a longing, but something a person stays in to experience — a song that causes pain and joy. A rock warm from the sun, with the name of a lost love.
