I have had a couple of American editors pick up on words they had no idea we spell as we do. They had to check with me whether it was a mistake or British spelling (at least they we considerate enough to ask). 'Tyres' was one. And one of these editors is an English teacher. I find it amazing simply because we are pretty much brought up knowing the difference between the way things are spelt in each country.
