I think your attitude to this guy is worth a medal, as well as your very balanced view of raising children to be smart and resilient.

I have been in a similar situation but with an older, childless woman. Some people get off by assuming they know better, especially than women, and especially if they are younger. It's not our job to change them, it's our job to raise our children in the best way WE see fit.
