I used to have a power-assisted bike. I bought it so that I would still be able to cycle places with two small children loaded on and it was great. You had to pedal and could turn the motor off any time you liked., which I usually did once I had some good momentum going. And then I tried cycling up onto the moor from Buckfastleigh and killed the motor - it couldn't do it.

But I had the motor replaced.

I sold it as soon as my girls were riding their own bikes. It lost its appeal entirely, being stupidly heavy and cumbersome.
