It's completely nuts! My Israeli (Jewish) grandparents spent their honeymoon in Lebanon. Can you imagine that now?
In Oxford, where I grew up, the synagogue was in the part of the city known as Jericho - one of the disputed towns in the West Bank. Opposite the synagogue, a Lebanese restaurant established itself, knowing they would do well there, and they did. We often went to eat there, not least because they did the best hummus and felafels (and everything else) we had ever eaten in the UK. They are still there, opposite the synagogue. I have no idea if they still rustle up as much business from the Jewish community as they did 30+ years ago, but I hope so.
