Most dedicated writers here are also dedicated readers. Some people highlight like crazy and clap but it doesn't mean that they are reading.

Most writers also want to check out the work of people who read and comment, and they will. It may take them longer to get to some than others and that's okay. Writers will follow some of their readers and not others.

None of that means they are unkind.

I was gutted when I realised that a brilliant writer whom I really respected had unfollowed me. We had connected personally and it felt like a supportive connection. At first I felt annoyed, even hurt. And then I realised that was silly. He was entitled to choose to read and follow whomsoever he liked. Indeed, a lot of his work didn't interest me but some did. So, I continued to read the work that did. I always enjoy it immensely and comment and clap. His choice does not affect my choices. And I do so for all the writers whose work I really enjoy. I know many don't read my work, or may just read one a month, and just that one a month keeps the connection there, the mutual respect alive.

That's what feels so good about Medium. We are all busy writers, readers, and everything elsers. So each read and clap and comment is welcomed as a gift but not expected 🙏🙏🙏
