Our kids are only as amazing as the effort that we put into them

Today is Mother’s Day in the UK.

I know, most of the world has their Mother’s Day at a warmer time of year, when splendiferous weather for treating mothers to beautiful days out is much more guaranteed. I think, in the UK, we just like to consider ourselves ahead of the rest of the world. So we always have ours in March.

Well, ahead of the rest of the world except for Norway. Apparently, the Norwegian Mother’s Day falls in February and, considering how cold and dark Norway must still be in February, that must feel like a total insult to Norwegian mothers.

I mean, what do you treat your mothers to in Norway in February? A new pair of heated slippers? Some thermal underwear?

Back to our great idea of celebrating our mothers in March, the weather can go either way. It could be bitterly cold and grey, even snowy. Or it can be absolutely delightful.

Okay, I concede — it’s not our British superiority that decides when Mother’s Day falls but the Christian lunar calendar, and it’s actually the fourth Sunday of Lent each year.
