My daughter's paternal grandmother is slowly heading down the dementia route and the easiest way for my girls to deal with it is to laugh. They don't do it out of spite and they wouldn't ever laugh if it upset their grandmother, but it isn't easy to watch people going through this and it's a way of dealing with it, if nothing else.
