Okay, this is coming from someone who works with people with this mindset block around self-promotion all the time... calling that 1% sewage is in your mind and probably not perceived as such in the slightest by your readers. I mean, you wouldn't make a promotional piece of content any less entertaining than the other 99% of your content, would you? People will enjoy reading it just as much and, if there are people still out there judging harshly because you promote your own work, then they need to get with the times. I wouldn't be holding back because of a few who judge.
I would have happily clicked on a link to your Amazon profile, and I actually hadn't realised that I could have read sections of your novels, had I known they were there. It has been on my mind to have a look for your books, partly because I know that you have based some of your work on local history, including history surrounding places literally down the road from me, but because you didn't make it easy, I hadn't got around to searching it out yet. Promotion simply makes that step easy for people who would want to go there anyway. There's nothing wrong with doing it.
My humble opinion anyway.
