Serves her right for being une chienne. I also think she got that wrong because I have never heard of it before, it doesn't make any sense, and I just check with my niece who recently moved from France and she confirmed you would never say that.

So it's either some warped Canadian rule, some archaic rule that is no longer in use (for obvious reasons), or she was just plain wrong!
