That pigeon's story is heartbreaking. It is a horrible feeling when you know that an animal feels grief and there's nothing you can do about it. The elder of my cats died earlier this year, mother of my other cat. That hole in her life was gaping and I felt desperately sad - for all of us, but having that sadness for her just made it worse.
