That's been the same for me. And my enjoyment of writing and showing up hasn't changed, but I think it's also important to be intentional where and how we show up, to not undermine our worth.
I read an interesting reflection on Substack, reminding writers that earning good money on Medium was never sustainable, and that writers simply don't earn well. While I don't dispute these assertions, I also know we can choose to value our work or not. I've written vast quantities for no financial compensation whatsoever, because it's been more important to get my words out to people than not. But I also know that I can use my writing skills to help put meals on the table and support my family. Likewise, the community is the emotional nourishment that keeps me going. For that reason, I think it's worth exploring all options and see how it pans out. Substack has options and ways of interacting that Medium lacks. Financially, it's probably a much harder slog. Hopefully it's possible to find some kind of balance between the two platforms, and the pros and cons of each.
