There is probably something in this. I remember learning about the landscape artist, Capability Brown in relation to the age of reason. Funnily enough, I had a summer job in one of his most celebrated designed gardens and it lost its charm for me once I could see the essence of that age in the design, where nature always had to be overpowered by man.
