This “Friend” Used Threats to Try to Frighten Me Into Paying Her Thousands of £s

I have some wonderful friends but, as it turned out, she wasn’t one

Fear is a powerful emotion.

To use it to try to manipulate people is one thing. But, when someone you believed to be a friend uses it to try to manipulate you, it is beyond shocking.

Nearly 3 months ago, I received a letter in the post.

It was a signed-for delivery, which is usually reserved for important documents. And yet, my name and address were written in scrawny-looking handwriting that resembled a child’s. It looked far from official.

Inside was a badly formatted print-out of a letter that began:

Re: Letter of Intent

Dear Sally,

I am writing to inform you of my intention to commence public denouncement against your actions, and to make a formal complaint to the financial ombudsman, calling for an investigation into fraud.

When I opened it, I was in shock. Who could be accusing me of attempted fraud? I have never tried to defraud anyone in my life.

As I read through the contents, I realised quickly who it was. It was from a friend who was determined to make me pay…
