This is so beautiful. And, although I do love the returning light, I understand that sentiment. There is something so cosy about hiding away. I haven't been able to do that this winter and feel like the light will give me the opportunity to escape a little more. Giving of ourselves - that hollowing out that you speak of - is something we do need to find a way out of.

I am so sorry for the loss of your niece too. And you are allowed to grieve.
