This Might be Why Your Referred Members Have Decreased Over Time

And here’s a suggestion to flip this unfair system on its head

For some time, I have been suspicious about the reason why so many people have noticed their number of referred members decreasing.

The thing is, the internet is a busy place. Yes, a lot of people flocked here while we were still experiencing some kind of restricted way of life due to Covid. I certainly arrived here during that time and missed out on the heyday of Medium glory.

The referred membership facility came into play just before I joined the Medium Partner Program. It began in August 2021 and I joined the MPP in September 2021.

Of course, like most people, I plastered my referral link on all of my stories in the hope that people would take the bait and subscribe through it.

My first ever referred member was my dad (thanks, Dad) but it didn’t stop there. At one point, perhaps about a year ago, I had a total of seven referred members, five of whom were unknown to me.

And then, one by one, they began dropping off. Another one did subscribe but the drop-offs happened with greater speed and by the autumn I was down to three referred members.
