This was an uplifting read. My mother, born and raised in Israel, moved to the UK with my father (a British Jew) before I was born. She banned Christmas from our home, along with insisting that my sister and I sit alone at our Church of England school while there were religious assemblies and education.
Of course we rebelled when we left home. But I can never identify with the Christmas that goes on around me. It’s a joy to observe and embrace but, as you say, we never forget we are Jews.
