We've got a brand new electric car charging station right next to Buckfastleigh and the A38. It opened about 2 or 3 months ago and they've just installed a "farm shop" which is actually part of a chain and nothing to do with local farm produce - which you can find at the next exit heading west at an actual, real farm run by real Devon farmers. Of course, it's going to be well-used, by Londoners on their way to Salcombe and Padstow, but seeing all of this in place really does drive home the social divide.
And yes, what we really need is to stop being so indulgent and learn to sit still a little more. The world is a beautiful place if you can just be still for long enough to notice. Great piece, Philip.
