What’s Your Preferred Way to Use Words to Make the World a Better Place?
Because it turns out we can’t get rid of the stupid people by bashing them
When I turn on Medium these days and see my feed and my suggested reads, there are certain writers whose names pop up that light up my morning, while others just make me think “can I be bothered to click?”
I realised this morning that there are writers who I have consistently read since I joined Medium who have been teetering on the precipice between “lighting me up” and “ugh…” but have now officially gone into the “ugh…” department. The one thing these writers have in common is that they write endlessly on the dire state of everything and why we can blame governments, rich people, and conspiracy theorists for it all.
They are excellent writers. They know their craft inside-out and they put their viewpoint forward excellently.
That’s why I have read them consistently for over a year. They captured a mood that became infectious during 2020 and 2021. But less so now.
And without the necessary humour to lighten the load of such content, it wears me down. There’s only so much of that kind of content I can consume before I…
