It's a very odd remark, and who cares where anyone falls on the statistical scale? Just the fact that this person even thinks that hard about statistics is an issue.
At the weekend, my daughter accompanied her close friend to a pride march. She was embraced into the youth group that her friend attends, even though she isn't a member and, since she has never identified as either gender-fluid or gay, she hasn't ever considered attending. The youth group didn't care, though. There was no "you're this or that". In that environment, everyone was equal and no one was put into any box to become a statistic. And that's how I believe it should be.
